About KASHI KE KOTWAL (PROTECTOR)- KAL BHAIRAVA TEMPLE

Kashi is the city of Lord Shiv and Kal Bhairav is ‘commander-in-chief’ (सेनापति) of Lord Shiv’s city. It is also believed that before worshiping of Lord Vishwanath, you must have to worshipping Lord Kal Bhairav of kashi. In Kashi, it is believed that to pray Lord Shiv, you have to take permission of lord Bhairavnath or Kal Bhairav, thus he is also called kotwal (कोतवाल) or god-magistrate of kashi .  The soldiers of the ‘kotwal’ are placed all along the Panchkosi Parikrama, who are acting as chaukidars over the entire boundary of kashi.
